And Make Me Light!

Artist Farah Behbehani worked again with Factum Arte to create her new body of work for her solo exhibition 'And Make Me Light!' at Athr Gallery in Jeddah (January 23 - April 15, 2023).

And Make Me Light! focuses on a series of embroidered designs made by the artist, which explore Kufic calligraphy and verse composition. Over forty different designs were digitised using the new Selene Photometric Stereo System in order to capture the subtle depth and artisanal qualities of the embroideries. The new scanner is able to record both surface and colour at the same time without losing quality due to the iridescent glass beads encrusted within the threads.

The 2D team at Factum Arte then worked closely with the artist to combine different verses into twelve different digital combinations that were printed in relief using the elevated printer. The 45x45 plates were then finished with silver wax and lacquer to recreate the iridescent visual feel of the beadwork and silver threads.
