Factum Arte collaborated with Lebanese artist Akram Zaatari to produce a series of photographic objects including cyanotypes, etchings and digital prints for the exhibition Against Photography. An Annotated History of the Arab Image Foundation on display until September 25th 2017 at the Museu d´Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA).
The works produced for this exhibition transfer and reprodice photographic objects in paper, glass and metal. Zaatari's exhibition brings to light discussions and key moments in AIF´s recent history and focuses different objects of the collection that triggered them. A significant part of the exhibition reflects on the disintegration of images over time and the aging of emulsion.
Our collaboration with Ghanian artist El Anatsui can now be seen at Royal Academy in London. This is the first time these hand-made prints are shown in a public institution. On view will be the entire Eclipse Suite, the Black and White Series and Fragments. The prints were made by 3D scanning the wooden worktops used to make El Anatsui´s famous tapestries. This information was transferred onto aluminium plates and then printed through an etching press. Learn more about these large-scale prints. Request a day pass to see them.

From November 3rd until January 28th of 2018 The exhibition Cartografias de lo Desconocido: Mapas de la BNE includes the idea conceived by Adam Lowe and Jerry Brotton: Terra-Forming: Engineering the Sublime in the context of the cartographic collection of the Biblioteca Nacional de España. These projections present a journey through time and space to see how our world has been imagined and built by artists and scientists, saints and cartographers. Terra-Forming will provide a creative response to the problem that has bedeviled creative minds for centuries: when faced with the staggering size and scale of the earth, how do we present a comprehensive view of the world without distorting it?
Joanna Tinworth, Exhibitions Curator at Sir John Soane's Museum, and Adam Lowe, collaborated on the Soane's current exhibition Egypt Uncovered: Belzoni and the Tomb of Pharaoh Seti I.
In the bicentenary year of the re-discovery of the sarcophagus of Seti I, now preserved at Sir John Soane's Museum, they will discuss Belzoni and Soane's engagement with this important antiquity and its continued appeal to visitors to the Museum and researchers alike. Lowe has been instrumental in producing the displays for another current exhibition about the tomb: Scanning Seti - the regeneration of a pharaonic tomb at the Antikenmuseum in Basel and will explore the significance of cutting edge digital technology in extending our appreciation of the sarcophagus - and art and antiquities more widely.

From November 4th until February 25th Het Noordbrabants Museum will be showing the complete series of 26 prints, The Garden of Earthly Delights, by the world famous fashion photographer, Tim Walker. The extremely impressive photos inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s (ca. 1450-1516) visual language were commissioned by The Nicola Erni Collection (Switzerland) and have never been shown in a museum before.
In 2016 Factum Arte was approached by Tim Walker and Nicolla Erni to produce a series of 26 vast digital prints of images taken by the photographer based on Hieronymus Bosch subject. Walker requested that Factum Arte produced the large-scale prints at the highest definition possible on a flexible material which could be easily transported. The digital printing team at Factum Arte, led by Rafa Rachewsky, proposed a material they had been developing for some time: ¨flex-gesso¨ or gesso coated linen.
Earlier this month, Adam Lowe attended the inauguration of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. During the events, he met with Jean Nouvel in front of Jenny Holzer´s site-specific installation of three large walls routed in limestone and marble. The work presents three historical texts carved in Cuneiform, Arabic and French.
Damián, Jacinto and Juan Manuel flew to NY for the installation of the Shirazeh Houshiary' first solo show with Lisson in New York. With Nothing is deeper than the skin she brings together new paintings and sculpture. The sculptures comprised of a twisting arrangement of glass bricks, Houshiary further explores the notion of transparency and the possibility of transcending three-dimensional space. Each brick, whilst an essential element in the construction of the work, also functions as a sign of absence or void, suggesting the quality of boundlessness. The sculptures’ helical forms, created through the careful rotation of each layer at precise angles to produce a spiraling effect, are at once vigorous and evanescent, their materiality appearing to stretch and pull into infinite space, exemplifying the interplay between form and formlessness that is the essential tension of Houshiary’s work.
This year´s Abu Dhabi Art overlapped with the inauguration of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Factum Arte and the Saudi artist, Manal AlDowayan joined forces to produce her new installation I Am From You and You are From Me. The work engages with the most vital and profound elements of the Al Ain Oasis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. by producing a graphic representation of the roots of date palms in Al Ain. Our collaborations with Khalil Joreige & Joana Hadjithomas and El Anatsui were on view in the booths of the Gallery Insitu and the October Gallery respectively.
In Beijing the penultimate event took place on November 30, the next closing round table will be Friday 8 at Victoria and Albert, London.
Adam Lowe traveled to Beijing to continue his work as a research partner in the project and will return to London.
The ReACH project coincides with the 150th anniversary of Henry Cole’s 1867 Convention, which helped usher in a period where museums actively engaged in the creation of reproductions of objects from around the world. The document is inspiring in its clarity, practicality and openness to the creation and sharing of reproductions.
