Adam Fuss is a British-born artist characterized by a camera-less technique in his photographic work, often reducing the medium to its bare essentials of an object, light, and light-sensitive material. Alongside these photograms, much of the artists work encompasses photographic printmaking; a practice that brought Fuss to Factum and our specialist printers. This artist profile explores the exciting results of this collaboration, as well as his values as both an artist and photographer.

Paula Crown is a multimedia artist interested in exploring the limits and possibilities of cutting-edge technologies and traditional media. Last summer, Paula Crown was in residency at Factum Arte's workshop in Madrid, experimenting with materials, pigments and giving form to new ideas.

Completed with Factum Arte in March 2017 and originally exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2017, Abdulnasser Gharem’s Hemisphere sculpture will now be shown in the Sharjah Art Museum, in collaboration with the Galerie Brigitte Schenk. The exhibition ‘Subversive Forms of “Social Sculpture”: Heimo Zobernig and Abdulnasser Gharem’ will run until November 2018.

On 14 Sept., the Fondazione Giorgio Cini opened its doors for the premiere of the event Homo Faber: Crafting a more human future. Until 30 Sept., the Venetian building hosted masterpieces, exhibitions, installations and workshops presenting the work of some of the finest European artisans. Among those works was Factum Arte's Greyscale Cabinet. Homo Faber is the first event organised by the Michelangelo Foundation.

In collaboration with the Physics Institute - University of Bern and the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research of Göttingen, Bernd Nicolaisen has developed his two new series HEAD OF 67P - ESA / ROSETTA MISSION and CHURY OUT OF HORIZON.

The new works revolve around mysterious places that have never been seen before, places more than 400 million km away from planet Earth. Within this seemingly abstract visual world, new perspectives on comet Tschurjumow- Gerasimenko 67P reveal themselves to the viewers. The large-format pictures in 3D print- and tableaux-formats incorporate two different work series.

Factum Arte's team has completed the 3D and colour recording of Goya's Queen María Luisa on horseback at the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the first step towards the production of a high-resolution facsimile that can be used for the study, conservation and dissemination of the painting. The project has been made possible by renowned American artist and film-maker Julian Schnabel, whose works are embedded in a deep knowledge of the past.

The production of a facsimile of Queen María Luisa continues in the Prado's long tradition of encouraging both great artists and students to make copies of works in the collection as a way to study the old masters. In this case, however, the 'copy' will take advantage of the latest technologies, allowing us to extract high-resolution information from the painting and transform it using digital tools in order to create a new interpretation of the original. The process of creating a facsimile requires the active collaboration of experts from different disciplines - it is rethought for each project and often leads to new insights into the work of art.

The facsimile of The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese, produced by Factum Arte, is part of the cases selected by the Venice Pavilion at the Biennale di Architettura 2018. For this edition, the Venice Pavilion has the purpose to offer a project of shared management of the knowledge. The original, currently held at the Louvre, was made for the refectory of the Benedictine monastery of S. Giorgio Maggiore. With this copy, Veronese’s masterpiece was brought back to the city of Venice and the island of S. Giorgio.

Rafa Rachewsky has just returned from installing Paula Crown´s new site specific intervention at Studio Cannaregio in Venice, part of her exhibition "The Architecture of Memory" at the 16th Biennale di Architettura.

The installation consists of several panels of laminated glass prepared with dichroic film and assembled at different angles in front of the window in the gallery. The light and atmosphere in the room, creates a series of reflections and unexpected colour shadows that change as the visitors walks around the space. A new diptych from the "Kinematics" series, printed on gelatine coated stainless steel at Factum Arte, can also be seen in the exhibition.

2017, A year that has been dominated by the production of Jenny Holzer's three vast walls in marble and limestone for Jean Nouvel's extraordinary Abu Dhabi Louvre. The merging of new technologies and manual craft skills has always been at the core of Factum Arte’s mission. It is a mix that has resulted in a deep understanding of the mediation of data and the transformation of diverse materials. Craftsmen used to be associated with one material (goldsmiths, painters, ceramicists, gilders, film makers etc) but the merging of the virtual and the physical is creating a new environment – a playground for artists.
As a sign of the times Factum Arte is now working with equal numbers of female and male artists – works are in production for Shirazeh Houshiary, Maya Lin, Manal AlDowayan, Melanie Smith, Marina Abramović, Charlotte Skene Catling, Nazgol Ansarinia, Paula Crown, Teresa Solar, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige and Rob and Nick Carter.

This new body of work has been meticulously produced using the most technically advanced methods available. For her second exhibition at the gallery, Mariko has increased both the scale and magnitude of her sculptures, creating monumental works, some of which embrace the architecture of the space.

Marina Abramović came back to Factum Arte to develop different projects and carry out new works. Marina together with Adam Lowe's help will work on the preparation of her next exhibition for The Royal Academy of Arts in London, becoming the first living woman artist to exhibit in this prestigious institution.

"I am 71 years old, I am in the last part of my life, very conscious of making this transition. I think that when you die you do not go to darkness, but to light. What we are going to try to create is a way to make myself disappear in the light"

The exhibition Scanning Seti: the regeneration of a Pharaonic Tomb has now ended at the Antiken Museum, Basel. The exhibition received extremely positive responses from reviewers worldwide and is currently being dismantled before being returned to Factum's workshops.

On May 9th, Adam Lowe is talking about Factum Foundation's work at the Warburg Institute, London, as part of the lecture series Re-Opening the Workshop: Medieval to Early Modern. The talk will provide a contemporary perspective on the series' focus on workshops and artists' studios as sites for the transmission of ideas and skills.

Factum Arte supported The Haas Brothers in creating Gorillas in the Mist, a fountain specifically conceived for the new Aventura Mall in Miami. This installation consisting of three large bronze gorillas and four massive bronze trees circulating water creates a space that is both peaceful and evocative.

For "Guardians of Heritage - Keeper of History" that will broadcast at 21.05h, Hannes Jaenicke meets Adam Lowe of Factum Arte in Madrid. In the first part of the documentary, Hannes travels to Jordan to meet in the refugee camp Zaatari where people who are cut off from their homeland try to keep the memory of their cultural roots alive. To do so, he will visit "Factum Arte" in Madrid, a workshop that preserves cultural heritage and contemporary art through the use of state-of-the-art technology combined with craftsmanship. Factum Arte is delighted to welcome four students to its summer internship program. André Paul Jáuregui and Halley Ramos, graduate students in the Historic Preservation program at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, will be supporting the 3D and color recording team by contributing to different scanning projects. As part of their internship, André and Halley will join a team on an innovative photogrammetric documentation project at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Andrew Hennessy has returned to help design new recording systems and Fernando Botella will research the uses of ´big data.´
