For his solo show at Frieze 2021 with ATHR Gallery (13 – 17 October 2021), Ahmed Mater presented a new body of work that analyses the ways in which "surveillance technologies have become an omnipresent impetus in encamping remote geographies, drastically transforming the principal rule of conflict". Eagle is the artist's most recent production with Factum Arte: an enlarged model of a General Atomics MQ-1 Predator (also called RQ-1 Predator), covered in sand.
After being provided with the 3D model, the main body of the sculpture was CNC-milled at Factum Arte, with some of the smaller sections 3D printed at Materialise before being mounted over a stainless steel structure. The sand was applied over a coat of glue.
