These images depict kamenitzas, indents in limestone that accumulate water and create the conditions for life, in Western Ireland and glacial erratics in New Zealand in a black-and-white abstract form.

Presented alongside the Factum Fetishes series at a private viewing on March 1st 2019, this collection of large-scale photographs were printed on gesso-coated aluminium at Factum Arte, a process that involved a number of interventions as the scanned negative is turned into a digital print with its own qualities. Printmaking is dependent on subtle transformations and mediation to produce an image that reflects the artist’s intention. This process of ‘finding the image’ has allowed Mariana to revisit her archive and reimagine the image’s potential through a new process in collaboration with Factum.
