Jose Dávila's artistic practice explores the symbolic languages used within Western visual culture, and the physical limits of material. His works frequently confront the viewer with precise and improbable balances and tensions, asking them to rethink both the objects in front of them and the architectural spaces of which the objects are a part.

Dávila studied architecture at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he lives and works, and is a self-taught artist. His works have been exhibited worldwide, from MoMA PS1 in New York to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid to Hamburger Kunsthalle in Hamburg; Reina Sofia and the Hamburger Kunsthalle are also among the institutions holding his work in their collections.
