Salt Panels

Mat Chivers, 2017

Facebook Twitter

The team at Factum Arte have been working on a series of three CNC carved salt panels for Mat Chivers. The works are a response to Metrological data that demonstrates global changes in the environment over the last twenty years.

The CNC milled salt panels are milled on CNC routing machines using data of average wave heights taken since 1981 in different locations as Morocco, Brazil and Galapagos. Factum Arte has been working with salt for several years. In a time of rising sea levels, water shortages and advances in desalination, salt will be one of the most abundant materials requiring innovation and lateral thinking to turn it into something stable. It melts at low temperatures and can be cast.

These works currently feature in Mat Chivers solo exhibition at PM/AM Gallery in London and will run until the 28th February 2017.
