Los Codigos were produced by George Mead Moore at Factum Arte on the flatbed pigment printer. They represent the surface of the earth through different interpretations such as aerial photography, painting and drawing, calculation programmes and impression. These are perhaps the first digital prints were the texture of the surface is in a direct relation with the process of digital printing.
Los Codigos were printed at Factum Arte using high resolution digitalisations of aerial photography’s of the Sierra de Juarez, in Oaxaca-Mexico, made by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics and later manipulated by the artist.
The digital archives were printed on top of metal plated coated with gesso. To create the desired colours and tonalities there were printed several different layers.
The surface has also been manipulated by the artist using several tools enhancing the curves of the landscape. The images are coated and framed in transparent acrylic boxes. The portfolio has eight different images in an edition of four. The titles of the works have been inspired on a book by Alberto Davidoff Misrachi titled Arqueologia del Espejo; a fascinating analysis of the Quetzacoatl legend and the planet Venus, the Codice Borgia and the archeological site of Tula in Mexico.
