Mathias Bengtsson studied furniture design at the Danish College of Design and at the Royal College of Art, where he studied with Ron Arad. After receiving his degree in 1999, Bengtsson collaborated with fellow graduates to create the design studio named At the Third Stroke and co-founded Design Laboratory in partnership with Sam Buxton. He established his own studio in 2002.

He has exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world and his work is in the collection of MoMA, Museum of Fine Arts (Houston), Indianapolis Musem of Arts, Museum of Decorative Arts in Denmark, and many more.

Today, Mathias Bengtsson lives and works in London, where he shares his studio with his wife, graphic designer Sara Hildén Bengtsson. Together, they collaborate on consultancy projects, yet also maintain their respective design practices.
