In 2005, following a public competition Factum Arte were selected by Red.ES to record and produce a facsimile of Commentary on the Apocalypse of Saint John by Beato de Liébana which is one of the treasures of the Biblioteca Nacional, Madrid.
Beato of Liébana (c 730 – c 800) was a monk, theologian and geographer from the kingdom of Asturias. He famously compiled a book called Commentary on the Apocalypse of Saint John. The Apocalypse of Saint John was written in the last part of the 1st century A.D. It’s apocalyptic in nature, and is interpreted as either a prophecy concerning the end of the world or a Gospel of Hope written in prose using symbols and metaphors.
The Beato Primero, not actually the earliest known copy of Beato’s text, is an early Mozarebe copy in the Biblioteca Nacional, Madrid.
