The centrepiece of this extraordinary exhibition is an exact and
exceptional replica of his burial chamber in the Valley of the
Kings. The walls of the tomb contain a complete depiction of
the Amduat, the oldest Egyptian book of the netherworld,
which chronicles the pharaoh’s journey through the afterlife.
This text is the key to eternity. An array of original exhibits
illustrates the themes of the Amduat and the rituals surrounding
burial, mummification and the belief in resurrection. Visitors, young and old, will thrill to the adventure of unravelling
the code to immortality which is depicted in the hieroglyphics
on the walls of the tomb of Thutmose III
The exhibition is a concept of Dr Eric Hornung, professor
emeritus of Egyptology at the University of Basel, and Dr Theo
Abt. It was originally developed by Factum Arte for the Museo
Arqueológico Nacional in Madrid and is being produced by the
United Exhibits Group, Denmark with loans of a wide range of
outstanding artefacts from the Museum of Ancient Art and the
Ludwig Collection, Basel, and the Egyptian Collection at the
Kestner Museum, Hanover.
