Factum Arte has made a series of portraits of individual pieces of popcorn. They are laser scanned, laser cut, finished by hand and finally cast in bronze. The bronze sculpture,accurate to the cracks on the husk, is painted by hand. One of these pieces can be seen in the Galerie Hopkins Custot
From the 3D scan we obtain a cloud of points that can then be converted into an STL file
From the STL file we divide the figure into cross sections that are cut into polystyrene which is then finished by hand.
After handfinishing the prototype is cast in bronze before being painted.
