Totem
Marc Quinn- 2007

180x176x150 cm Cement
Marc Quinn's Totem was inspired by the mysterious moai (statues) of Easter Island and the Sphinx in Gizah.
Factum Arte water-jet cut Darth Vader's head in slices of expanded polystyrene from digital information. Once the slices where mounted in the correct order, a silicon mould, reinforced by a metal structure, was produced. The mould would be filled with cement mixed with pebbles to produce the final rough texture of the cast.
3 copies of this sculpture have been editioned, plus 2 artist's proofs.
